Pilates

Pilates is a recently developed form of exercise created by Joseph Pilates. He focused on the control of core muscles in the body, referring to muscles in the abdomen, lower back, hips, and buttocks areas the “powerhouse". He also emphasizes on breathing and proper circulation.

Pilates can be based on a group mat exercise or be used with specific Pilates equipment design to enhance the exercises. Some of the equipment used are the medicine ball (figure), resistant band and Pilates ring.

When in a Pilates class, a teacher will normally explain how to contract the core muscles. You will be reminded of those muscles throughout the whole workout, otherwise you will forget to tense them. Exercises become too easy sometimes if your core muscles aren't been used.

Pilates can remind many people that took dances lessons of the beginning stretches done prior to dancing. The toning of your muscles comes in a different way than when you do a cardio class or lift weights. It is more subtle and takes a little longer, but it maintains a stress free everyday routine.

After a while of doing Pilates one could move to a more advanced class or start using some of the equipment. It's very hard to explain Pilates, one has to try it to know if it is the right work out for them. One thing is certain you will feel stretched and relaxed while working out, which can be a great gift for a person with a busy Life style.
